The Biggest, Most Profitable Market (and where to grab up hot products for It)
Kevin Bidwell All-In-One-Business.com Tuesday, 1:36 pm
The largest cherry pie ever created was 17.5’ wide and weighed 28,350 lbs.
The pie tin for this enormous dessert (along with a plaque from the Guinness Book of World Records) sits outside the entrance to the Sara Lee baked goods factory in Traverse City, Michigan.
Now, when I go to the store and purchase a ready-made pie (I won’t go into why my wife is not dutifully baking one right now in June Cleaver heels and pearls…) they are usually around 9” wide.
Which do you think contains more cherries, a slice of the small pie or the big pie? Of course, the HUGE one.
Over the last couple years, most so-called “internet gurus” have told people to target small, unique, underserved market niches. “After all,” they reason, ”you can corner the market on Antique Polar Bear Leg Warmers.” And, sure enough, you check and find out you can get to the top of Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL and Aunt Minnie’s Old-Time Search Engine with virtually NO competition.
Of course, how many people do YOU think bought antique polar bear leg warmers last week? How about over the entire last year?
I checked and it is exactly zero.
Yup, not one person bought antique polar bear leg warmers. In fact, even sales of new polar bear leg warmers was pretty low.
I’ll bet you’re way ahead of me: The only markets worth targeting are ones where you can grab even a small piece of a huge pie.
You want to be able to get a foothold in a pie that’s so big even a sliver will make you serious money. And it’s not that hard to do.
You Already Know the Hugest Pie Out There
Want to know what the biggest pie of all is? Self improvement.
Yup, for people with money, showing them how to rescue their inner child while working from home on their own computer by investing in massive return penny stocks losing 20 lbs overnight. All without exercise or dangerous drugs. (Some restrictions may apply.)
Self-improvement is your gold-mine
There are at least four reasons why the self-improvement niche can make you money:
1. People Spend Money on Self-Improvement.
Self-improvement—from gym memberships to courses in meditation—is a multi-billion dollar industry. People will pay a mint to be thinner, smarter, richer and have well behaved children.
2. You don’t have to create a product.
Right now there are hundreds of products out there that you can choose from. You can pick up reprint rights to a quality product, or you can find a public domain book that you can reprint free. You can contact the owner of a product no one has ever heard of and offer to sell it for him and pay him a small percentage.
3. Many Products can be Automatically Delivered.
This can be a huge advantage. Since the self-improvement niche is often about providing information—a new diet, an investing strategy, no-money down real estate—you can usually deliver the product digitally or through a fulfillment house. You spend your time and energy on marketing, not on providing a service or manufacturing a product.
4. You can advertise self-improvement products anywhere.
Self-improvement products have such a universal appeal they can be marketed through almost any medium and even a mediocre presentation usually can make a profit. Everything from email to junk mail; television to search engines provide you opportunity. And you can do it cheap.
Here’s Exactly Where To Find a Profitable Product
You want to look first for a product with a great concept but lousy marketing. The best way to do that is to use a free tool from Amazon.com.
Several years ago Amazon.com decided to begin rating websites according to traffic. Now I hear they rate about 16 million. Right now the most visited site is Yahoo, followed by MSN and Google. Ebay is number 8. Amazon calls this tool “Alexa.”
All-In-One-Business.com ranks about 18,000 from the top (not bad—that puts us ahead of almost all our competition.)
To find your “free” product to offer, start out by downloading Amazon’s “Alexa” toolbar here:
This little nugget measures how many people visit any particular website, then tells you how that compares to other sites. Here’s how you’ll use it…
Go to Google.com or your favorite search engine and type in a search phrase self-improvement topic you are interested in like “weight loss” or “marriage help.”
Now, go to the 10th page of the results and begin looking for a site where they offer a unique digital product.
Why are you looking so deep in the search results? Simple: You want to find a site where some author has put together a product, then never really been effective in getting traffic. If you start with the top listings you’re going to find they have tons of traffic.
Once you see a promising description, visit the site and take a look at the alexa ranking for the site. The higher the better—certainly anything over 100,000.
That tells you the site isn’t making any sales—it has little or no traffic.
Once you have found a few of these possible products, make the website/product owner and irresistible offer…
Here is what you know: Here is a guy with a seemingly good product but little or no sales. Not only that, but he might have the worst sales letter ever written. So here is the offer you make him…
“I am Kevin Bidwell and I am constantly looking for self-improvement products to offer. Your product caught my attention and I would be interested in possibly promoting it to the 87 million consumers on the lists we have access to. Obviously we would pay you a generous commission, and it will be done at no cost to you.”
“If you are interested in discussing this possibility, please give me a call at (555)555-5555 or let me know where I can contact you.”
Will everyone accept your offer and contact you? Nope, but do this a few times and you will have someone take you up on it.
Once you have your product, the next step is to get a sales process that works. I’ll cover that in my next article. Right now, I think I’ll have a piece of pie…
Here’s Wishing You Whole-Life Success,
Kevin Bidwell
